The philosophy of practice at the Herb Shop is 'respectful provision of the best possible natural health care'.

The underlying principle of natural (naturopathic) health care is the understanding that, given the right conditions, the body has an innate ability to heal itself. These 'right conditions' include an appropriate lifestyle, diet, and mental-emotional attitude.

Natural health care is 'natural' because it works with (not against) the bodies own resources and mechanisms to achieve health and wellness.

Also, rather than treating the disease, or just the symptoms of disease, natural therapists treat the 'whole person', and all the interacting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual systems which comprise the person.

In this sense, natural health care is also 'holistic' in nature - the belief is that the 'whole person' is greater than the sum of her or his physical parts, and that this needs to be recognised for true healing to occur.

The aim of treatment is to identify the cause of a person's state of 'unwellness', and then to give them the knowledge and assistance required to engage in the healing process.

Treatment will therefore typically involve the provision of lifestyle coaching and dietary advice. It may also involve the prescription of herbal remedies and mineral/vitamin supplements to assist the body in bringing about a state of restored physical and psychological vitality.

If you are (and choose to continue) receiving ongoing treatment from a G.P, chiropractor, massage therapist, psychologist, or any other health care professional, the treatment you receive at the Herb Shop will be developed so as to best complement these other treatments - not to replace them or work against them.
